The issue of the Queen's Silver Wedding crown marked the transition between the five shilling crown coin and the decimal twenty-five pence. The last 25p crown was struck in 1981 to mark the wedding of the Prince of Wales to Lady Diana Spencer. After that date the twenty-five pence 'crown' was replaced by a five pounds coin due to economic restraints in producing such low denomination coins in large size.
