Elizabeth II 1980 25 Pence Queen Mother 80th Birthday Commemorative Crown Coin. Reference: Spink 4228.
On the 4th August 1980 the Queen Mother celebrated her 80th birthday. A commemorative twenty five pence crown coin was struck in cupro-nickel with a reverse design by Richard Guyatt. Also minted was a specimen in a presentation folder, a cupro-nickel proof version and silver proof. Both faces of the coin were designed by Arnold Machin. 9,748,000 cupro-nickel crown coins were minted in total and 83,672 silver proofs.
The obverse of the 1980 twenty five pence Queen Mother crown coin shows the second decimal portrait of the queen facing right by Arnold Machin. The inscription around the portrait reads: ELIZABETH II D·G·REG·F·D·
The reverse of the 1980 25p Queen Mother crown coin was designed by Richard Guyatt and bears the inscription: QUEEN ELIZABETH THE QUEEN MOTHER AUGUST 4th 1980. To the centre of the coin is a small left facing portrait of the Queen Mother surrounded by bows and lions - a play on her maiden name of Bowes-Lyon.
The edge of the coin is milled.
