Although George V came to the throne in 1917, it wasn't until 1927 that the first crown coin of his reign was struck. Between this year and 1936 crowns were minted for release at Christmas time as gifts for people to give as presents. These were released in relatively low volumes apart from a special Silver Jubilee commemorative crown in 1935.
Due to steep rise in silver prices in 1919 and 1920, the purity of the silver used in the coinage was reduced from .925 to .500. As such the crowns of King george V were minted as .500 fine except for a 'special edition' of the 1935 Jubilee crown coin which reverted to the .925 purity.
