Elizabeth II 1977 25 Pence Silver Jubilee Commemorative Crown Coin. Reference: Spink 4227.
1977 saw the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, marking 25 years since the accession to the throne. 36,989,000 cupro-nickel twenty five pence crown coins were minted, as well as a specimen in a presentation folder. A cupro-nickel proof version and silver proof were also struck. Both faces of the coin were designed by Arnold Machin.
The obverse of the 1977 25p Silver Jubilee crown coin depicts the Queen on horseback. The design echoes that of the 1953 Coronation Crown. The inscription on the obverse of the crown coin reads ELIZABETH · II DG · REG FD 1977. (DG · REG FD is Latin for 'for by the Grace of God, Queen').
The reverse of the 1977 25p Silver Jubilee crown coin depicts the fourteenth century Ampulla and the twelfth century Anointing Spoon below the Royal Crown and encircled by a floral border. The reverse is notable as it is the only crown in British history not to feature an inscription or date.
The edge of the coin is milled.
The Royal Mint released an uncirculated specimen version of the 1977 coin in a presentation folder. Reference: Spink (as standard coin).
The Silver Jubilee crown was also minted as a proof version in the 1977 year set (Ref: Spink PS27) appearing with all the coins from the 50p to 1/2p. 193,000 of these sets were minted. Reference: Spink (as standard coin).
377,000 siver proofs of the 1977 crown were issued by the Royal Mint. These are presented in plastic capsules within a case. Reference: Spink (as standard coin).
